Shane Evans at LitFestKCCrossroads Charter Schools, partnered with The Rabbit HOle and Kansas City Public Libraries, to bring the first-ever LitFestKC children’s literature festival to downtown Kansas City April 28-29, 2017.

The event will brought several renowned children's authors to Kansas City to interact with area students and present a professional conference for educators, writers and artists focused on the art of the book, the creative process and the craft of storytelling in literature.

Crossroads Charter Schools students in third, fifth, and sixth grades had the chance to participate in Kids Day and learn from successful authors:

Scholars had the opportunity to meet author Javaka Steptoe (2017 Caldecott medal winner for Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat) and Shane Evans (Kansas City author), John Bemelmans Marciano (Madeline books and The Witches of Benevento) and Sophie Blackall (Ivy & Bean series and Finding Winnie, winner of the 2016 Caldecott Medal) and Brian Selznick (2008 Caldecott medal winner for The Invention of Hugo Cabret).
