Crossroads Charter Schools, in partnership with The Rabbit HOle and Kansas City Public Libraries, is excited to bring the first-ever LitFestKC children’s literature festival to downtown Kansas City April 28-29, 2017.

The event will bring several renowned children's authors to Kansas City to interact with area students at Kids Day, and present a professional conference for educators, writers and artists focused on the art of the book, the creative process and the craft of storytelling in literature.

Several Crossroads Charter Schools students will participate in Kids Day and learn from successful authors:

Third grade scholars will see authors Javaka Steptoe (2017 Caldecott medal winner for Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat) and Shane Evans (Kansas City author).

Fifth grade scholars will see authors Shane Evans (Kansas City author), John Bemelmans Marciano (Madeline books and The Witches of Benevento) and Sophie Blackall (Ivy & Bean series and Finding Winnie, winner of the 2016 Caldecott Medal).

Sixth grade scholars will see authors Shane Evans (Kansas City author) and Brian Selznick (2008 Caldecott medal winner for The Invention of Hugo Cabret).

We look forward to our students interacting with high-quality literature and its makers in our vibrant downtown community.
